Associate General Counsel

Position Overview

This role reports directly to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and will be responsible for supporting key legal initiatives and programs managing Choice’s corporate and compliance obligations. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast paced environment, is not intimidated by ambiguity, and enjoys being a strategic business partner providing solutions that balance legal obligations while enabling growth.

Job Responsibilities
  • Participate in the definition, development, and deployment of corporate policies, procedures, and compliance programs to maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Keep abreast of and advise business partners in connection with changing laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Support and actively participate in corporate governance matters and management of international subsidiary strategy. Inclusive of the preparation for board meetings, overseeing the maintenance of corporate minute books and records for all company entities.
  • Assist with litigation and manage outside counsel relationships.
  • Lead legal operations initiatives impacting multiple departments, develop creative solutions to new or undefined challenges, and drive high-stakes projects ensuring legal deliverables align with corporate goals.
  • Lead negotiation and execution of sophisticated, high-stakes agreements, ensuring alignment with business strategy and legal best practices.
  • Coach and develop junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning while facilitating collaboration and alignment within the legal team and across departments.
Skills/Qualifications
  • JD from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 8+ years of experience practicing law, with experience in commercial transactions and regulatory compliance. In-house counsel experience is a plus.
  • Experience with GDPR and CCPA and related privacy regulation and in managing compliance and privacy/cybersecurity regulatory projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-ambiguity environments and develop creative solutions to new or undefined challenges.
  • Strategic business mindset with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable business guidance.
  • Strong analytical and attention to detail skills.
